Nacqui nel secolo scorso , appena dopo la prima metà , nel 1951, ahimè! Mi sono occupato di molluschi marini fin da giovane, nel 1966 ho iniziato a raccogliere esemplari sulle spiagge a nord di Livorno, poi tramite il materiale recuperato dai pescherecci della darsena e, infine, direttamente in apnea e in immersioni ARA.
Le mie raccolte tramite ARA sono avvenute in gran parte, intorno all’Isola di Capraia , isola che amo e che ho frequentata assiduamente dal 1988 fino al 2002, esplorando i suoi fondali e reperendo e descrivendo anche una nuova specie che ho dedicata a mia figlia : Alvania elisae.
La mia raccolta di molluschi marini messa insieme in molti anni , con poca discontinuità fra il 1966 ed il 2004, ha raggiunto un livello piuttosto importante, ricca di esemplari anche notevolmente rari e particolarmente rappresentativa dell’Arcipelago Toscano.
Di recente, per evitare di essere trascurata divenendo obsoleta da un punto di vista sistematico ma anche per evitarne un deterioramento dovuto all’abbandono, ho ceduta la mia collezione in blocco ad un amico che ha deciso di valorizzare le vecchie raccolte toscane che rischiavano l’abbandono assicurandomi la sua conservazione, questo per me è stato un po’ traumatico ma so che è come un figlio che si sposa e lascia casa, viene il magone, ma si sa che proseguirà la sua vita !
In Capraia ci sono poi tornato nel 2007 ma stavolta nella mia nuova veste di ricercatore di molluschi terrestri , infatti dal 2007 ho abbandonata la mia attività dedicata ai molluschi marini e mi sono dedicato completamente ed esclusivamente ai molluschi continentali dei quali, Capraia, appunto, è anche la patria di endemismi importanti come Tacheocampylea tacheoides e Oxychilus pilula e da tale isola ho voluto iniziare.
Il mio abbandono delle raccolte marine è coinciso con il mio pensionamento nel 2004 e , da allora, cerco di sfruttare il mio tempo libero andandomene , con mia moglie e la mia cagnetta, a giro per l’Italia col mio camper ed il mio fedele scooter con i quali ho raggiunto in questi anni, numerosissime località dove ho raccolto molluschi endemici e non mettendo insieme , in breve, una notevole raccolta di molluschi terrestri e di acqua dolce , rappresentativa della fauna italiana ed in particolare della Sardegna e della Sicilia, isole che occupano uno spazio particolare dei miei ricordi e che mi hanno visto loro ospite più volte.
La passione fotografica , che ho sempre coltivata , a parte le numerose foto subacquee eseguite in Capraia, è sempre stata per me, più che una attività primaria, una irrinunciabile necessità per poter illustrare quanto raccoglievo e poterne poi arricchire iconograficamente i miei contributi scritti. Nelle mie foto dal vivo, ho sempre privilegiato lo scatto al soggetto trascurando , spesso, la ricerca della perfezione stilistica e tecnica, gran parte delle mie foto, quelle che accompagnano i miei contributi iconografici monografici, sono eseguite con reflex digitale su stativo ed illuminazione artificiale. Attualmente sto sperimentando recenti tecniche digitali per aumentare la qualità finale.
Negli anni relativi alla mia attività marina, ho pubblicato, su varie riviste scientifiche, da solo o insieme ad amici malacologi, lavori inerenti la Malacofauna mediterranea mentre, recentemente, ho pubblicati alcuni lavori monografici su specie terrestri, con notevole dotazione di iconografia e alcune note di accompagnamento.

I was born in the last century, just after the first half of 1951, alas! I have dealt with molluscs from an early age, in 1966 I started collecting specimens on the beaches north of Livorno, then through the material recovered from the vessels dock and finally directly in apnea and diving ARA.
My Collections by ARA took place largely around the Isle of Capraia, island I love and that I frequented assiduously from 1988 until 2002, exploring its depths and also by identifying and describing a new species that I dedicated to my daughter : Alvania elisae.
My collection of marine molluscs put together over many years, with little discontinuity between 1966 and 2004, it reached a rather important, rich in specimens also remarkably rare and particularly representative of the Tuscan Archipelago.
Recently, to avoid being overlooked becoming obsolete from a systematic point of view but also to prevent a deterioration due to the abandonment, I sold my collection en bloc to a friend who has decided to enhance the old Tuscan gathered that the danger ' abandonment assuring its preservation, this for me was a bit 'traumatic but I know it is like a child who gets married and leaves home, the Magone, but we know that will continue his life!
Capraia are then returned in 2007 but this time in my new capacity as researcher of terrestrial molluscs, in fact since 2007 I abandoned my activities dedicated to marine molluscs and I dedicated myself completely and exclusively to the continental molluscs of which, Capraia, precisely, is also home to endemic species such as Tacheocampylea tacheoides and Oxychilus pilula and from that island I wanted to start.
My abandonment of harvested marine coincided with my retirement in 2004 and, since then, I try to take advantage of my free time by going away with my wife and my dog, to around Italy with my camper and my trusty scooter with whom I have achieved in recent years, numerous places where I collected shellfish endemic and not putting together, in short, a remarkable collection of terrestrial molluscs and freshwater, is representative of the Italian fauna, especially of Sardinia and Sicily, islands occupy a special place of my memories and I have seen their guest several times.
The passion for photography, which I always cultivated, apart from the many underwater photos performed in Capraia, has always been for me, rather than a primary activity, an indispensable necessity in order to illustrate what I collected and then be able to enrich my iconographic written contributions. In my live picture, I always preferred shooting the subject neglecting often the pursuit of perfection of style and technique, most of my pictures, those that accompany my contributions iconographic monographic, are performed with digital SLR on the stand and artificial lighting . I am currently experimenting with newer digital techniques to increase the final quality.
Over the years related to my activities marina, I published on various scientific journals, alone or together with friends malacologists, work relating malacofauna the Mediterranean while, recently, I published several monographs on terrestrial species, with significant endowment of iconography and accompanying notes.
